Project 2, Report (Audio and Video)

The company is conducting market research at universities around the country about student’s attitudes towards healthy eating and organic produce. Initial findings seem to suggest that students like the idea of healthy organic drinks and snacks, but only if the price is right and they taste good!

Management are exploring the use of multimedia to engage with this group, and have commissioned the development of a video advertisement for a prototype drink called ‘Organic One’ and supporting website with video interviews, games and video upload features.

The following components should be submitted in your proposal:

· Professional and detailed storyboard for video with appropriate annotations

· Video advertisement developed using NLE package (specified by the tutor) that demonstrates good use of the package for scene selection, lighting, sound, digital effects and titles

· Appropriate special effects and on-screen graphics

· A campaign microsite

The microsite should be developed using the latest version of Wordpress and hosted on the university web server. Unlike the Intranet project, this site could be viewed on a number of devices and therefore needs to be developed in an accessible manner.

The site should contain the following elements:

Homepage

· Student feedback and video interviews (short 10 second video sequences)

· Photo gallery (gallery of product photos and/or customers with products)

· Game/interactive features

· Newsletter sign-up (capture users name and email address to a database)

· Embedded video advert (video delivered from university server with subtitles that can be turned on/off during playback)

In addition to the video sequence and microsite, you are required to also submit:

· A report explaining the rationale behind the design, making reference to the storyboard, your approach and technology used. Give details on how you created this in the NLE, the issues/challenges you faced and how you resolved these.

· A technical report for the company IT team, on how to make audio and video online accessible and worked example on how you made the video advert accessible in the prototype site. Give details on how this can be achieved in older web browsers.

All elements of the build (code, designs, video artefacts etc) should be retained for inspection at the end of the module and included on a DVD with the final portfolio.

Prototyping

To made this advert the first problem was how can I create a video from an unreal item. I have bought a commercial 3D tetra packs Photoshop mock-uk from Envanto Market (Source: http://graphicriver.net/item/large-juice-carton-tetra-pack-mockup/4652565 )

When I tried to edit this 3D mock-up realised my desktop computer Nvidia GTX480 graphics card has not enough speed to real time editing. I had to buy a AMD Radeon R9 290 (4GB DDR5) graphics card for high quality picture editing.

For my products I have designed three different type of tetra pack layouts and embed to 3D mock-up.

To prototype them I used a sample wireframe to create pictures. This pictures have been printed out to glossy photo paper on high quality.

From this pictures I have created three real tetra packs.

My idea was I will use this box and twirl them. I wanted to use my phone camera and green box technology to change background later. Unfortunately my phone’s camera (13MP) quality wasn’t enough for Chroma key effect. I also tried to my Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ7 pocket digital camera what can record HD videos but its quality still wasn’t enough. Finally I bought Kodak Pixpro AZ526 (Full HD video 52x optical zoom) what I could use my project. The light system also important to this technology. I bought studio Chroma Key background set with special studio light and reflector umbrellas from eBay.

Whit this setup I could record what a wanted. I hanged on my tetra packs to fishline and twirled them when I record them.

Actors

To record my videos my daughter, my son and my friend helped me. We used that setup what I built in my house. The actors been changed on the screen and everyone just said a sentence or few words only.

Filters

The video has been edited with Adobe Premiere Pro software. For change object backgrounds I used Ultra Key effects. Few objects were a little bit blur so I need to set Pedestal value to higher in Ultra Key effect. To reduce objects size I used Crop effects. To move object to right position I used Motion video effects. When a new object displayed on stage I used Cross Dissolve effects.

For my final video advert I used over 10 Sequences, 9 Video Layer and 2 Audio layers.

Advert 2

Main idea

When my first video advert been finished I realized my advert a bit simple and I wanted to learn more from this subject so I decided to create a second video. The main idea was to create a advert which is look like a news but it is really an advert.

Creation process

The first step was I downloaded free videos for news intro and studio background from http://www.free-video-footage.com/

I added a title to intro.

The studio background was

My plan was to show street runners videos in a screen so I needed to create a screen frame with Chroma Green background. I did it with Photoshop.

From to

I added to my studio background and created a temporary studio background file with this screen. And finally I added a news readers into this studio background. To the TV screen I mixed up downloaded free street runners videos.

At the end of frames I displayed my tetra packs picture on TV screen and above a fanny advice.

Video and audio effects

During this video editing process I used Constant Power audio effect, Motion, Crop and Ultra Key video effects.

Wordpress microsite

When I started this part of project I installed Wordpress CMS system to University Nestor Server. I had a lot of problem with this server permissions. Therefore I installed a new system to my own server and when I finished my functions I moved it to Nestor server.

Home page

On my Home Page I displayed a welcome text few short information from ours company. There are a company logo, a navigation bar, two video advert, User menu, Newsletter sign-up box and a Leave comment box.

I have chosen this theme because it is small and fast. It downloaded more than 150.000 times. Fully mobile responsive. Built using the latest HTML 5 technology.

Stream Video Player

For embed my videos I used Stream video player. I have chosen this because it support multiple format video for other resolutions, subtitling on-off. I use version 1.4.1 by Rodrigo Polo.

It well supported and easy to use it. When we installed it we got a new icon in pages editor bar.

When we click to add video button a new pop-up windows open where we can add to our videos details. We can chose Base URL, Full size video file name, Preview image, HD video file name, iPhone-iPad video (.mp4), OGV video and Captions (.xml) file for subtitling. There are a lot of other options. When we click to generate it generates a code and insert to ours page.

The main video format is flv. I have exported my videos to different format and resolution to display them on more type of tools as desktop computer or mobile phone.

On the videos we got functions button where we can turn subtitle and HD on-off.

For my all videos the web space wasn’t enough in Nestor server, so I keep my videos on my own server and upload them from there.

Student feedback and video interviews

For student video feedback I have installed two plugins. The first one is a video gallery where we can find short videos. The second one for leave a video feedback. Users can record a video using their webcam.
